School of Business

Shelly Martin is a native of the CSRA. She grew up in North Augusta and attended North Augusta High School. After graduating, she attended Augusta University to pursue a
bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Early in her college journey, she underwent a pivotal transition from pursuing a Nursing major to delving into the realm of business and marketing. This shift was catalyzed by her role as a Leasing Consultant at an apartment
community, which served as her initial introduction to the multifamily industry. Since 1996, she has been on a continuous learning journey, starting from the very foundations of leasing and marketing, and progressing to encompass new construction, acquisitions, the implementation of cutting-edge technology, and assuming leadership roles. Ms. Martin’s commitment lies in keeping the organization at the forefront of industry trends, promoting efficiency, and fostering innovation. The key to achieving this lies in ongoing education, establishing connections with positive and productive individuals, and placing the right people in the right seats.

Ms. Martin actively participates with the Apartment Association of Greater Augusta (AAGA) with education and events and has held multiple seats on the Board. In 2010, she began to chair the annual charity golf outing for the Association. She focused the proceeds to benefit breast cancer research at The Georgia Cancer Center. She even coined the name “Tee Off Fore Tatas” for the event and built a brand. The event has now raised over $275,000 for breast cancer research over the last 13 years. Through her involvement with AAGA, she also has a network that extends to members of the GAA (Georgia Apartment Association) and NAA (National Apartment Association). She regularly participates in conferences and networking events to stay abreast of industry developments. Also, as a member of Vistage Worldwide, Inc., she is privileged to regularly engage with CEO’s and business owners from all types of businesses to share successes and challenges to learn from and hear from world renowned speakers on top business objectives.

In her "spare time," she engages in a variety of side ventures. She manages a small portfolio of personal rental properties, occasionally embarks on house-flipping projects, and takes pleasure in the art of staging homes. What truly fulfills her most is the management and setup of short-term rental accommodations. Hosting guests from all corners of the globe and working to create memorable and comfortable experiences during their brief visits to Augusta is a source of immense fulfillment. When she is not immersed in work or side projects, she prefers to spend time outdoors with family and friends, preferably close to a body of water. Edisto Beach, S.C. is her happy place. Searching endlessly for shark teeth on the beach or deep-sea fishing is where you will find her with the biggest smile.
