Students with disabilities must often overcome a variety of obstacles to achieve their educational and career goals. Augusta Technical College believes all students should have equal access to higher education. Disability Services provide accommodations and services that are individualized and appropriate for students with documented disabilities.
Students who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities may be served by Disability Services. To this end, Augusta Technical College ensures college access to students with documented disabilities as required by the Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the 1990 Americans with Disability Act and its amendments. These laws guarantee that qualified students with disabilities have equal access to the physical facilities at Augusta Technical College and to educational programs. Major life activities include the ability to perform certain functions such as self-care, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working. Students who have physical or emotional disabilities or learning challenges may benefit from reasonable accommodations and/or assistive technology in the classroom. To request accommodations, equipment, or other services students must provide current professional documentation describing the disability and appropriate accommodations. Disabilities may be temporary or permanent impairments, and can include:
Visual, hearing, mobility, chronic illness, speech
Depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, OCD
Learning disabilities, acquired brain injury, ADD, ADHD
Any changes to a classroom environment or task that permits a qualified student with a disability to participate in the classroom process, to perform the essential tasks of the class, or to enjoy benefits and privileges of classroom participation. An accommodation is a legally mandated change that creates an equitable opportunity for task completion or environmental access.
Upon request, each classroom can be equipped with adjustable desks; large screen monitors; speaking, reading and enlargement software; wheelchair accessible desks; arm rests; copy and book stands; ergonomic chairs; laptops and speakers for remote captioning; and other assistive technology.

- All documentation must be prepared by a professional
- Identification of the nature and extent of the disability

Students with disabilities must follow the same admission procedures as all other students by completing and submitting the Augusta Technical College Application for Admission. If you need assistance completing your application the Disability Services Coordinator will assist you.
No. Augusta Tech provides reasonable classroom accommodations for students based on their eligibility. The Counseling Center, Tutoring Center, and Success Center are available to assist with academic needs.

- Completing the Special Populations Survey at the time of orientation/registration
- Submitting appropriate documentation
- Requesting your Instructor to complete a TEAMS Alert
- Making an appointment/visiting the Counseling Center/Office of Disability Services
No, you must contact the Office of Disability each term to request accommodations/services
Under normal circumstances the Office of Disability Services is prohibited by ADA/504 to discuss a student’s disability with any one on campus. If we/I think that disclosing your disability will make you more successful at Augusta Technical College I will ask you in advance before disclosing any of your confidential information. If we/I feel that you may be a threat to yourself or others by law we are mandated to disclose your disability, but the Office of Disability Services will provide notice to you in writing before doing so. If you file an appeal for Financial Aid, Academic Suspension, or feel that you have been discriminated against by the college your disability may or may not be disclosed in the investigation process, but you will be notified at the time of your appeal hearing/process.
No, but due to the shortage of Certified Interpreters in the CSRA area and the hiring process we highly recommend that you inform Augusta Technical College’s Office of Disability Services at least 3 months in advance of your interest and possible enrollment to the College.
