Augusta Technical College announces $750,000 gift from
Syensqo to create a mobile training center
Augusta, GA - November 18, 2024
Augusta Technical College proudly announces that Syensqo has donated $750,000 to develop and support a mobile manufacturing learning center. This is a strategic initiative that addresses several critical challenges while fostering community development and workforce enhancement. The lasting impact of COVID-19 and growing inflation have created significant barriers for students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged and rural backgrounds. Augusta Tech’s response, supported by Syensqo, aims to mitigate these challenges by providing more remote offerings through this state-of-the-art mobile lab.
“This initiative demonstrates the college’s dedication to broadening access to quality education and enhancing local workforce development through innovative solutions like the mobile lab. We are grateful for our partnership with Syensqo and their commitment to workforce development,” said Julie Langham, Vice President of Economic Development at Augusta Tech.
The mobile lab will modernize the way technical training is delivered, using hands-on training, simulations, virtual reality and working models. This innovative approach will equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the modern manufacturing and industrial workforce. This initiative not only enhances educational accessibility for economically disadvantaged and rural students but also addresses the industry’s growing demand for skilled technicians capable of operating and maintaining complex systems.
“At Syensqo, we believe that investing in education is essential to building a sustainable future,” said Mike Finelli, Chief Technology & Innovation Officer and Chief North America Officer at Syensqo. “We’re proud to support Augusta Technical College in preparing the next generation for high-quality jobs in the growing clean energy sector. We are investing in the future of this community and in the success of our shared vision to advance the sustainable mobility transition.”
Syensqo is a science company developing advanced materials and solutions that contribute to safer, cleaner, and more sustainable products found in homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, batteries, smart devices, and health care applications. Syensqo’s support of Augusta Tech’s mobile lab is part of its project to build the largest North American production facility for electric vehicle materials in Augusta, Ga, supported by a $178M U.S. Department of Energy grant and a joint venture with Orbia.
The primary mission of the mobile lab is to bring education to rural areas and deliver onsite training to incumbent workers, addressing a critical gap in technical education accessibility. By bringing the training directly to these communities and workplaces, the mobile lab will play a pivotal role in upskilling the workforce and supporting the economy of the Central Savannah River Area.
