Augusta Technical College Foundation's Family First
Campaign Raises Over $50,000

Faculty, Staff, Board of Directors, and Trustees Contribute to Support Students in Need

Augusta, GA - September 24, 2024

The Augusta Technical College Foundation proudly announces $57,225 in gifts and pledges for the annual Family First campaign. This year's contributions underscore the continued commitment of the Augusta Tech community to supporting its students.

Founded in 1987, the Augusta Technical College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to raising resources that advance the college’s mission of providing excellence in workforce education. These resources contribute to Augusta Tech students' career advancement and economic empowerment.

The 2024 Family First campaign, which ran from September 4-18, focused on directly impacting students’ lives. Family First events were held at all Augusta Tech campus sites, where Faculty and staff were encouraged to contribute to bridging the financial gaps many students experience. Suggested donation amounts included $1,200 to help cover tuition shortfalls, $511 to cover student fees, $250 for textbooks, $200 for laptops, and $50 for emergency funds.

“This year saw an overwhelming increase in participation,” said Dr. Beth Sacksteder, Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Development. “In past years, only a few individuals gave over $1,000. We had 90 donors this year, with 22 contributing $1,000 or more.”

Additionally, the Foundation invited its Board of Trustees and the College’s Board of Directors to join the campaign. Their contributions added to the impressive results, with a total of $25,800 from these groups. Campaign proceeds will support funds to provide essential support to students, including:

  • The Cougar Scholarship Fund: Helping students facing financial hardships.
  • The Student Laptop Fund: Supporting students who need laptops to access coursework.
  • The Student Transportation Fund: Assisting students needing transportation to attend classes.
  • The Lend A Paw Fund: Providing microgrants to students experiencing immediate financial emergencies.

The total contributions from faculty and staff reached $31,425, reflecting their commitment to the college’s mission.

“The faculty and staff are deeply invested in our students' success every day,” said Dr. Jermaine Whirl, President of Augusta Technical College. “Their overwhelming support of the Family First campaign speaks volumes about how much they believe in these students and Augusta Tech’s mission of transforming lives through workforce education.”
