Knox Foundation Announces Donation of $1M to Augusta Technical
College for new Automotive Service Training Center
Augusta, GA - November 14, 2022
“For the third time in the past twelve months, Augusta Technical College has received a transformational gift in support of workforce development," said Augusta Technical College President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. The Knox Foundation announced a donation of $1 million to Augusta Technical College for the development of the college’s new automotive service training center in the Laney Walker Neighborhood.
This gift comes on the heel of two other million-dollar gifts from Augusta National Golf Club and Jim Hudson Automotive Group. The new facility will quadruple Augusta Technical College’s current training footprint to meet the rising demand for automotive technicians and professionals in the area. Once operational, the center will offer 16 certification programs to approximately 1,270 students annually as the region’s leading automotive training center.
“Augusta Tech is sincerely thankful to the Knox Foundation for their investment in support of the college’s new automotive training facility," stated College President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. "The Knox Foundation have been longtime supporters of our institution, and we’re thankful for their continued support of the institution’s mission."
"With the constant negative reports in the media concerning the plight of America's cities, it is gratifying to be a resident of a city like Augusta. Imagination, foresight and commitment to positive growth and change are what sets Augusta apart from other areas. Yes, we have a long way to go, but my hope is that people and ideas can come together, motivated by a shared sense of values and dreams for a better community," stated Elizabeth K. Hopkins, Grants Director of the Knox Foundation.
