Gena Sapp is named Augusta Technical College's 2020 RPA Winner

Congratulations Gena Sapp!


The Augusta Technical College Logo that is black in color.  The logo is a square shape that contains vertical stacking of the words Augusta Technical College Established 1961.  The words Augusta and Technical are separated by a row containing three squares.  Each square contains a silhouette image.  The first square contains a female with a white stethoscope around her neck.  The second square contains a person kneeling to the right wearing a welding helmet and holding a welding torch. Gena Sapp is named Augusta Technical College's 2020 RPA Winner

A blonde, white caucasian, Gena Sapp, is wearing a bright red collared jacket over a black shirt and is pictured with the United States flag standing in the back left against a grey background.Augusta, GA, December 4, 2019– Gena Sapp, an Early Childhood Care and Education Instructor at the Waynesboro/Burke County Campus, has been named the 2020 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year Award winner for Augusta Technical College.  The announcement was made by President Terry Elam at the Faculty and Staff Meeting on November 19, 2019, at Augusta Technical College. 

Mrs. Sapp was selected from among 16 participating faculty candidates for this year’s award.  She has taught at Augusta Technical College since January 2017, and has previously taught at Burke County High School and Southeastern Technical College in Swainsboro, Georgia.

Mrs. Sapp will represent Augusta Technical College at the regional competition at Central Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins on February 26, 2020, and will participate in the state conference at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in April 2020.

“I am very humbled and honored to have received this award.  I know the impact that technical education has on students, both from a professional viewpoint and a personal one.”  

The state winner will carry the title of “Technical College System of Georgia’s Instructor of the Year” and serve as the state’s ambassador for technical education.  The winner exemplifies excellence and a commitment to the mission of the Technical College System of Georgia and makes many public appearances throughout the year, including addresses to the Georgia General Assembly, the governor and the TCSG Leadership Conference, to name a few.  A $1,000 grand prize is also presented to the deserving award winner.

The Rick Perkins Award (RPA) for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) most outstanding instructors. The award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Georgia Technical College.
