Sherri Rowe, Department Chair
Design and Media Production
Augusta Technical College
School of Cyber and Design Media

Sherrie’s passion for graphic design and all things printing began in kindergarten. That was when she discovered that ink from her “Weekly Reader” could be transferred using Silly Putty to notebook paper and pretty much anything else that stood still. That began a life-long love of all things printed. Sherrie has been a professional graphic artist ever since she discovered that art was a lot easier than working.

Being the child of a DoD family afforded her abundant travel and the opportunity to hone her “never meeting a stranger” skills at four different elementary schools. Sherrie learned the finer points of negotiating from her two brothers usually over who should drive and be in charge.

A proud Academy of Richmond County graduate, she endured college before enrolling in Augusta Technical Institute to pursue a diploma in Printing and Graphics. This diploma and the skills that accompanied it have served her well. In her former life she owned and operated her own printing firm. Sherrie decided to begin her teaching career when it became almost impossible to find trained and qualified employees in the industry. Sherrie oversees the production schedule for live work and collateral work for the college while teaching a full class load. Looking back at her almost twenty-five-year career, she believes she made the correct decision.

She holds professional memberships in PIAG (Printing & Imaging Assoc. of Georgia), Professional member of Lithographers of America, Who’s Who in Higher Education, Who’s Who in Graphic Communications, Professional member of SkillsUSA, SkillsUSA National Education Team, Chairperson of the SkillsUSA National T-shirt Design Contest, Member of GA Postsecondary SkillsUSA Planning Committee, SkillsUSA GA Postsecondary Online Testing Coordinator, SkillsUSA GA Postsecondary Web Master, and Augusta Technical College SkillsUSA Lead Advisor. She is a Family First Contributor and the President’s Club Member. Sherrie is also a former DMPT consortium chair, United Way Campaign Chair, Assistant United Way Campaign Chair, Toys for Tots Coordinator, Juvenile Diabetes Walk Coordinator, Heart Walk Coordinator. Sherrie has also served on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Augusta and the Vets to Washington organization. Sherrie also serves as the Augusta Soap Box Derby Director and works closely with the Augusta Training Shop.

During her tenure at Augusta Technical College, she has had three DMPT students selected as GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) Student of the year, one of whom won GA State GOAL Student of the Year recently. She is the first two-time Augusta Technical College Rick Perkins Teacher of the Year and a finalist at the state level.

Of all of Sherrie’s accomplishments and accolades the ones she holds most dear are daughter, sister, and friend.

In her free time, Sherrie enjoys kayaking, music and growing blueberries on her “Tiny Farm”.
