L. Gene Burke has been with Augusta Technical College since April of 2005. He serves as the Director of the Surgical Technology Program. Gene received his training from the Naval School of Health Sciences in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1992. He became certified in August of 2005. He is also a certified Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor by the American Heart Association.
Gene spent 7 years in the United States Navy where he successfully completed Hospital Corpsman School in December 1988. He has worked in clinics, hospitals, and Surgery Centers throughout the world. While stationed in Charleston, South Carolina at the Naval Hospital, he was given the task of writing and teaching an Orthopedic Technician Surgical Assistant program. It is still in use today.
