Artist and educator Martin Parsons and Cosmetology student David Towles
David Towles, a third-quarter cosmetology student at Augusta Technical College and resident of North Augusta, recently received a design award from internationally renowned Toronto-based platform artist and educator Martin Parsons (http://www.martinparsons.com/). David received the award for assisting with and participating in a two-day advanced training class held in Atlanta on “updos and special occasion hair,” which was largely based on the internationally acclaimed design techniques found in Martin Parsons’ new book, Long Hair Secrets.
“I met Martin Parsons in September at a hair show, and was honored, particularly as a student, to be invited to assist with and participate in his master class,” said Mr. Towles. He added, “I was the lone student in the midst of a group of advanced stylists who traveled from across the country to gain knowledge and expertise from Martin Parsons, which was somewhat intimidating but exciting!” The advanced class included training in balance point design, as well as various hair sectioning, pinning and teasing techniques. Participants, who were required to create more than 16 unique hair styles, included salon owners and stylists from as far away as Texas, California and Michigan.
