Augusta Technical College recently held a lab dedication on its Augusta campus. It is naming the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Lab (ECM) after the late Richard J. "Dick" Edenfield to recognize his hard work and commitment to excellence.
Edenfield was a well-known electrician in Augusta who opened his own business and subsequently went to work for the City of Augusta as Chief Electrical Inspector. He later became Chief of Inspectors for the Department of Inspectors. After retiring, he continued to work as a consultant for the city and was very supportive of the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program at Augusta Technical College. Upon his death, his family requested donations be made for a scholarship endowment at the college. Lewis Vann, an advisory board member for the ECM department was instrumental in heading the lab dedication project was in attendance to thank all who made it possible. Edenfield's daughter, Carole Lhuillier of Atlanta, represented the family and thanked the college and its supporters for bestowing her father with this great honor. Terry D. Elam, president of Augusta Tech and interim president of Savannah Tech, was on hand to share reflections of Mr. Edenfield and to present the plaque along with Lhuillier. Donations can still be made to the Edenfield Endowment Scholarship, contact Beverly Peltier, Augusta Tech's foundation director at (706) 771-4023 or bpeltier@augustatech.edu.
