Karen Dempsey, a Medical Assisting student from the Augusta Campus, is the first scholarship recipient of the Medical Assisting Scholarship Endowment established by Dr. Paul Fischer and the Center for Primary Care.

The scholarship endowment was established by Dr. Fischer to help advance the technical training of medical assistants. The endowment makes two annual awards one in the fall and one in the spring.

Dr. Fischer is a member of the Augusta Technical College Foundation Board and has been actively involved in the Medical Assisting Advisory Board serving as the advisory chair.
