Augusta Tech to Break Ground for Columbia County Campus September 14 A new era in education will begin September 14, 2007, with groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Columbia County Campus of Augusta Technical College. Gerald Hendrick Receives AFCEA Scholarship Gerald Hendrick, an Electronics Technology student, received a $500 scholarship from the Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter of the Communications and Electronics Association. Pat Lisk Contributes to Nursing Book Pat Lisk, a nursing instructor at the Augusta Campus, helped write the test bank for a book entitled Instructor's Resource Manual for Kozier and Erb's Fundamentals of Nursing Concepts. Surekha Prasad Secures Sponsorship to Attend SAME-TEC Conference Surekha Prasad earned the Southwest Center for Microsystems Education sponsorship to attend the SAME-TEC Conference in Texas. Jason Trefil Named a Coca-Cola Two-Year Scholarship Recipient Jason Trefil, a student in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Program, was named a Coca-Cola Two-Year Scholarship Recipient by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Shala Bussey Wins at Skills USA National Competition Shala Bussey recently took first place in Job Demonstration at the National Skills USA competition. Lisa Nagle Featured in CMA Today Magazine Lisa Nagle is featured in the July/August edition of CMA Today in an article entitled "Physician inspired by dynamic educator." Millennial Generation Seminar Held at Augusta Tech Over 300 faculty, staff and business and industry representatives attended two sessions on the Millennial Generation on July 6th. Doretha Hollins-Williams Earns Her Georgia Work Ready Certificate Doretha Hollins-Williams earned her bronze Georgia Work Ready Certificate. George Lightfoot Successfully Completes "Augusta in Army Boots" George Lightfoot became an honorary second lieutenant for successfully completing "Augusta in Army Boots." GED Graduation Held on June 16th A successful GED graduation was held on June 16th at the James Brown Arena. 2007 Energy Career & Leadership Academy Held at the Waynesboro/Burke Campus The Academy focuses includes energy careers, ethics, and leadership. Tommy Lyles Participates in US-Brazil Arts and Culture Exchange Program Tommy Lyles is spending time in Brazil as part of a US-Brazilian Arts and Culture Exchange Program between technical colleges in both countries. Gene Burke Recognized as Galaxy Star of 2006 The Association of Surgical Technology recognized Gene Burke as a 2006 Galaxy Star for encouraging 75% or more of his students to become members of AST. Augusta Tech Holds Commencement Activities Augusta Tech held its annual commencement activities at the James Brown Arena. Waynesboro LPN Students Receive their Pins The Practical Nursing students received their nursing pins at a ceremony held on campus. Waynesboro Early Child Care Students Volunteer Early Child Care and Education students from the Waynesboro Campus donate their time to paint murals for the local Head Start program. Practical Nursing Students Pinned The Spring Candidates for Practical Nursing were pinned during a ceremony held on campus on June 14th. Annual Employee of the Year Awards Presented Congratulations to Kevin Ward, Carrie Edwards and Jeffrey Davignon for being named Employees of the Year. Service Awards Presented Ken Jones, Wilicia Jarmon and Ray Center were recognized with service awards. Surgical Technology Students Receive Professional Pins Congratulations to the most recent class of Surgical Technology students that received their professional pins. Janice Richardson Receives Faithful Service Award Janice Richardson was recognized for over 40 years of faithful service to the State by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Georgia Merit System Commissioner Steve Stevenson. Criminal Justice Students Visit the Crime and Punishment Museum Criminal Justice students from Burke County experienced some of Georgia's history by visiting the Crime and Punishment Museum in Turner County. Students Inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Students were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa on June 7. Dr. Melissa Frank-Alston Graduates from Leadership Augusta Dr. Melissa Frank-Alston is the most recent graduate of Leadership Augusta. Memorial Bench Added to ITC Grounds Thanks to the generosity of Pat and Linn Brucker, a memorial bench has been added to the grounds of the ITC building. GED Graduation Set for June 16th Augusta Tech's GED graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 16th at 4:00pm at the James Brown Arena. Mrs. Tiffany Rowe-Thomas will be the graduation speaker. Sharon Rigsby, President of Gwinnett Tech, Will Serve as Graduation Speaker Ms. Sharon J. Rigsby, President of Gwinnett Technical College, will serve as the June Graduation speaker for Augusta Technical College's commencement activities.
