Things That Lead to Success

Study Websites - These sites and pages
contain information about a variety of topics that help students in their
studies. Check them out! (Thanks to Michelle S. for these!)
- The Study Guide
Zone This site talks about everything from the type of learner you
are to suggestions about taking notes in class to admissions tests,
including the Compass and Asset.

- Learning
Styles - Different people learn in
different ways. Find out which learning style best applies to you.
- Note
Taking - One of the basic ways to
prepare for classes is by taking notes both in class and while doing
homework. There are several methods recommended for taking notes. The site
at California
Polytechnic State gives examples of each type and lists advantages and
disadvantages of each.
- Perfectionism - Do you know the difference between wanting to do
your best and having to be perfect? Are you disappointed if you don't make
a 100 on every paper? If so, you may suffer from perfectionism, which can
eat away at self-esteem and actually hinder achievement. Check out these
sites if you think this applies to you.
- Procrastination - Procrastination is one of the main reasons
assignments and projects don't get completed on time. What can be done
about procrastination? Look and see.
- General
Work and Study Habits - The
basic rule of thumb is to allow two hours of study time outside of class
for each hour spent in the classroom. To take full advantage of that time,
good study habits are important. Virginia Tech, University
of St. Thomas, and Mind Tools
offer phenomenal sites on various topics ranging from scheduling your time
to how to read outside assignments effectively. If you visit no other
sites, go visit these.
- Test
Anxiety - Test anxiety is one of the
most common reasons students, who are otherwise prepared, site for doing
poorly on tests. There are a variety of ways,
however, that test anxiety can be combated. Below are a few links to
schools that provide suggestions on the subject.
