2007 GOAL Winner David Towles

Biography of David A. Towles
A native of Charleston, SC, David has resided in the Central Savannah River Area since 1988 with his wife Valerie and their children Nathan (17) and Elizabeth (14). He is a fourth-quarter cosmetology student at Augusta Technical College, where he maintains a 4.0 grade point average and a 3 rating work ethic grade.

He is a member of the Deans List, nominee to the National Technical Honor Society, and a cosmetology representative for Skills USA, with plans to compete in the Georgia State competition in April 2007. After graduation in June 2007, David plans to establish Edge, a full-service salon and spa.

Prior to enrolling at Augusta Technical College, David attended the University of South Carolina-Aiken, where he majored in speech communications and voice under the tutelage of Antoine Cordahi. During his tenure as director of marketing and public relations and spokesperson for an international tissue bank, he appeared in programs and documentaries which aired on such media venues as Discovery Channel, ABC 20/20, ABC Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, CBC, BBC Radio and TV Asahi. He also helped coordinate interviews and provided quotes for articles in Time, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, LA Times, Toronto Star and Rolling Stone Magazine, among numerous other local, national and international print publications.

For many years, he was known as "The Collector" on WRDW News 12 at Noon, on which he presented bi-weekly topics on antiques and collecting.

He utilizes his public speaking, communications, and talent skills as an interview, poise, and talent consultant to teen and miss pageant contestants. David worked with young women who placed in top five, Georgia Teen USA, top 10, Miss South Carolina and top 15, Florida Teen USA.

He has served as publicity co-chair and media spokesperson for the Aiken Center for the Arts’ Antiques in the Heart of Aiken since 2000, and is a board member and media representative for the Aiken Choral Society and co-founder of its annual Holiday Homes Tour.
