Four Augusta Technical College students have been selected as college finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to John Richardson, coordinator for the college GOAL program. Chosen as finalists are Corinna Ambs, a Medical Assisting Student; Dina Howell, a Culinary Arts Student; David Towles, a Cosmetology Student; and Jason Trefil, an Industrial Electrical Technology Student.

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education sponsors the GOAL program statewide. At the college-level, GOAL is sponsored by the Optimist Club of Augusta and coordinated by officials from Augusta Tech.

"The GOAL program," said John Richardson, "seeks to spotlight the importance of technical education in today's world of work and to recognize outstanding achievement by students in our state's technical college system.”

According to John Richardson, the screening committee of administrators at Augusta Tech selected the four finalists from a list of students nominated by their instructors. To be considered for the college’s GOAL title, a student must be nominated by his or her instructor.

"A selection committee from the Optimist Club of Augusta will now interview and evaluate these four students to select the college GOAL winner," explained John Richardson, "and the one judged most outstanding will compete with representatives from Georgia's 38 other technical colleges and divisions for the 2007 State GOAL title, medallion and grand prize car."

The student  who is selected as the State GOAL Winner by demonstrating excellence in leadership and abilities will receive the grand prize of a new automobile. The student’s nominating instructor and the college GOAL coordinator will be awarded a check for $250.
