Reading 098 - Reading IV

Course Description

Provides instruction in vocabulary and comprehension skills with emphasis on occupational applications. Topics include: vocabulary development, comprehension skills development, critical reading skills, and study skills. The prerequisite for this course is RDG 097, or entrance reading score in accordance with approved DTAE admission score levels.

Test-taking techniques Develop reading techniques that help prepare to take objective and subjective tests.
Information Locate information in textbooks and reference materials.

  • Improving vocabulary skills, Goodman, D. J., Mohr, C. & Nist, S., (1990), Townsend Press.
  • A college desk dictionary (Any you choose–Not a paperback edition)

Grading Scale

Classroom evaluation will be based on the following:

  • Average of 10 reading skills tests 25%
  • Average of 10 vocabulary tests 25%
  • Average of assigned weekly readings 25%
  • Final exam 25%

Students’ final course grade will be one of the following:

  • SC–Satisfactory Completion
  • U–Unsatisfactory
  • W–Withdrawal
