Course Description

Explores the philosophic and artistic heritage of humanity expressed through a historical perspective on visual arts, music, and literature. The humanities are presented as a source of subjective insights for the understanding of people and society. Topics include: historical and cultural developments, and contributions of the humanities. The prerequisite for this course is a grade of "C" or better in ENG 191 or the equivalent.

Contributions of the Humanities
Significance Describe the significance of the humanities in the thought and technology of the historical-cultural periods.
Influence Describe the influence of the humanities on contemporary and future thought and technology.

Textbook, tools, and supplies

  • Lamm, Robert C. The Humanities in Western Culture: A Search for Human Values. Brief Version. 4th edition. Dubuque, Iowa: Brown and Benchmark, 1996.
  • Standard course supplies should include notebook paper, pens, pencils, and 3.5" high-density, formatted computer disk.

Evaluation and Grading:

100-90 / A 89-80 / B 79-70 / C 69-65 / D Below 64 / F
Assignments are weighted as follows:
