Course Description This course emphasizes practical knowledge of technical communications techniques, procedures, and reporting formats used in industry and business. Topics include research, device and process description, formal technical report writing, business correspondence and oral technical report presentation. This is a five credit hour course. The prerequisite for this course is ENG 191 with C or better. Competencies | Reference Use and Research | | Conducting research | Use appropriate reference material in preparing a technical report. | | Device and Process Description | | Characteristics | Work individually to describe precisely in writing the characteristics and components of mechanisms and processes. Work collaboratively to describe precisely in writing the characteristics and components of mechanisms and processes. | | Formal Technical Report Writing | | Format/style | Prepare a formal technical report using accepted formats and style. | | Business Correspondence | | Format/style/types | Prepare memo, business letters, and resume using accepted formats and style. | | Oral Technical Report Presentation | | Delivery techniques | Deliver an informative technical presentation orally using computer generated visual aids. | Required textbooks/materials - Pfeiffer, W.S.
