Course Description Emphasizes the student's ability to read literature analytically and meaningfully and to communicate clearly. Students analyze the form and content of literature and practice various modes of writing. Topics include: reading and analysis of fiction, poetry, and drama; research; and writing about literature. The prerequisite for this course is a grade of "C" or better in ENG 191 or the equivalent. Competencies | Reading and Analysis of Fiction, Poetry, and Drama | | Structural Elements | Identify the structural elements of poetry, drama, the novel, and the short story. | | Ideas and Values | Examine the ideas and values in various literary works. Identify different levels of literary effectiveness. | | Research | | Resource Use | Use bibliographic and periodical indexes, digests, and library cataloging system. Access and select information from data banks such as GALILEO. | | Writing about Literature | | Theme Writing | Write well-organized themes based on literary readings.
