Program Description: The Computer Programming degree and diploma programs consist of courses designed to provide students with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and techniques required in processing business data. Those interested in a Computer programming degree should be high motivated individuals who are interested in becoming an information technology professional. Program graduates are to be competent in the following areas: programming languages such as PHP, Visual BASIC, Java, Java Script, C++, and C#; SQL and data base management; XHTML; networking concepts; as well as language arts/communication, social/behavioral sciences, natural sciences/mathematics, and humanities/fine arts. High school graduation or a GED is required for admission to this program.
Employment Opportunities: The Bureau of Labor Statistics has indicated an increase in the need for software developers through the year 2018. According to a recent survey conducted by Computerworld Magazine of CIOs and technology managers, computer programming and application development skills are 2 of the most in demand high-tech skill sets. Employers will continue to seek computer professionals with strong programming, system analysis, interpersonal, and business skills. Program graduates receive a Computer Programming Associate of Applied Science degree or diploma and are qualified for jobs as entry-level business applications programmers.
