Computer Programming Department

Program Description:

The Computer Programming associate degree program consists of courses designed to provide students with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and techniques required in processing business data. Those interested in a Computer Programming Associate of Applied Technology degree should be highly motivated individuals who are interested in becoming an Information Technology professional. Program graduates are to be competent in the general areas of humanities or fine arts, social or behavioral sciences, natural sciences or mathematics, as well as the specific areas of systems analysis and design, database management, networking concepts, and courses in PHP, Visual BASIC, C++, Python, COBOL, and/or RPG programming. Recommended electives include courses in Java, Java Script, HTML, microcomputer courses, and additional accounting courses.

Employment Opportunities:

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics Office of Employment Projections, the need for computer programmers/systems analysts is expected to increase 94 percent by the year 2008. Program graduates receive a Computer Programming Associate of Applied Technology degree and are qualified for jobs as entry-level business applications programmers.
