The electronics industry employs 2.6 million people in the U.S., making it the nation's largest employer. Within electronics, more than 150,000 work as computer technicians in the computer and office machine repair sector. Between now and 2012, the number of jobs in the computer and office machine repair sector is expected to grow by approximately 35%, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Computer technicians construct, set up and repair computers and network devices. They are involved with software installation and maintenance, training computer users and administering and managing  network components. Computer technicians are employed by companies in all areas of business and industry both large and small. Graduates of the program are working in hospitals, paper mills, credit unions, computer manufacturers, government contracts, local and state government positions, for school boards in support of local educational facilities, consulting firms and on-line service companies.
