Program Description

The Public Works Civil Technician program is a sequence of specific discipline courses designed to prepare students with the knowledge and basic skills to assume entry level paraprofessional tasks and responsibilities in the areas of public works infrastructure construction and construction inspection and public works infrastructure maintenance, and to learn to perform these tasks and responsibilities independently in a minimum period of time. Core classes provide the student with background and skills in mathematics, communications, and computer skills. The Public Works Civil Technician will also have the knowledge base to quickly and efficiently learn to assume supervisory responsibilities in these career areas. High school graduation or GED is required for admission to this program.

Employment Opportunities

There are four primary categories of employers: Georgia Department of Transportation, City and County Public Works Departments, Public Works Construction Industry, and Engineering Consultant Industry. Paraprofessional engineering technicians include positions in construction inspection, materials testing, and construction supervision.
